Definitive maps

  • Representing applicants for definitive map modification orders, including parish councils and voluntary organisations at public inquiries
  • Representing objectors to modification orders at public inquiries
  • Acting as a witness on documentary evidence for a surveying authority

Changes to rights of way

  • Acting on behalf of applicants for public path diversion orders under both the Highways Act 1980 and the Town and Country Planning Act 1990
  • Representing objectors to public path, school special extinguishment and rail crossing extinguishment orders


  • Providing advice to an applicant for a development consent order on the suitability of the land proposed to be provided as exchange land for common land to be taken for the proposed development

John has written articles for Waymark, journal of the Institute for Public Rights of Way and Access Management, on the Localism Bill and its implications for rights of way (summer 2011) and human rights and rights of way (the Clarkson case in the Isle of Man)(summer 2012)
